The Process for Unique Handcrafted Furniture

A Collaboration in Furniture Design:
We believe an artistic design process that is both organic and precise is key to unique handcrafted furniture perfect for your individual needs. A free digital design service is offered to customers to provide them with an accurate visual representation of the piece and its dimensions. Through this collaboration, we can achieve the perfect marriage between form and function before the work even begins. Customers are also invited to our home workshop in Preston Melbourne to discuss in detail the exact requirements of their piece, whether this be dimensions, timber choice or structural and finishing options.

Sourced in Melbourne:
Once the design has been signed off by the customer, Lloyd will go ahead and order in timber especially suited to the project and personalised requests. Using a few machines to get the timber to rough dimensions, Lloyd is then ready to work on the traditional hand tool joinery.

Hand Tool Joinery:
Our work uses traditional hand tools, which not only add a uniqueness to each piece but also an uncompromising strength. Each piece is crafted using these age-old joinery techniques, namely the mortise and tenon, and dovetail joint. Although this means each piece takes longer to build, we believe authentic timber joinery is a worthwhile investment, greatly enhancing the feel and value of your environment, not to mention the longevity of the piece.

The Finish:
Of utmost importance is that each finish meets your needs. Before the build begins we’ll have an in depth conversation discussing the existing decor of your house and protection requirements for the piece. Every customer has a different home with different requirements and we can cover a host of sustainable options to suit every situation.
