I believe that a handmade furniture piece is one where you can see the maker’s fingerprints. Made by one who does the work him/herself and provides a piece that is very personal. There are no machine marks, instead carefully beveled edges and hand planed surfaces all made possible with finely tuned blades.

Generally 6-8 weeks is a typical amount of time to complete your custom furniture piece, though this is dependent on the amount of orders being fulfilled at any given time. For my own sanity and pursuit of quality I need to work on one piece of furniture at a time. This is due to the fact I’m a one man shop and utilise a substantial amount of handwork in my projects. Once I begin work on your project, you’ll find things progress very quickly with many updates along the way. A lot of focus, time and care goes into each piece.
Lloyd Brooke Furniture is not a retail store as I make and design bespoke furniture to suit each individual customer’s needs. Customers are invited to come visit a work in progress at my workshop in Emerald, Melbourne. This is a good opportunity have a look through samples and chat about design and the finer details of the bespoke piece.
I use the Livos Countertop Oil and Osmo Polyx hardwax oil interchangeably on my handcrafted furniture pieces. They are both non yellowing products that doesn’t form a plastic film on the bespoke furniture. They still offer appropriate protection and are easily maintained by the customer.
Any furniture grade timber is an option. Out of the Australian hardwoods, Tasmanian Blackwood and Oak are commonly used. American Walnut is a beautiful timber if an overseas option is required. All timbers are sustainably harvested and well suited to hand tool usage. Timber selection is of utmost importance in handmade furniture.
A product care document is sent out with each custom piece with complete instructions on how to rejuvenate your surface.
Absolutely. Delivery prices vary according to location and access. Pickup from the workshop can also be arranged.
Yes a 30% deposit is taken once the design has been finalised. This will secure your spot for a custom piece in the work schedule.
